Today i woke up feeling really ill again but am feeling a bit better now. I've been in bed most of the day and Dave has been out with Corey so it's given me a chance to recuperate. When he came back he brought me a Mcdonalds which was yummy and then i've been maintaining Coreys website and generally catching up on stuff. I've added a few webrings to Coreys website and when i couldn't find one about eating disorders in children i decided to make my own, so if you know anyone who has a blog/website who might want to be a member of the eating problems in children webring then let me know.

I am ill! I have the most horrendous cold imaginable and Corey has one too. He is handling it much better than i am i must add. My head is throbbing, my nose feels as if it's about to explode and my throat feels like sandpaper. Am i feeling sorry for myself, why yes of course!

Corey has decided he doesn't want to sit still and be non mobile any longer and so yesterday just went for it. Now he has been sort of mobile for a while but it sort of took him half a day to roll and manoeuvre himself across the room. Yesterday he just went from 0-60 in 10 secs flat! He gets up onto his knees or feet and push his way forward and pulls with his elbow, i guess this is his form of crawling. I have put a video of him up on his hands and feet on his webpage here if you want to look. At one point i thought he was just gonna stand up! He moved a bit but got a bit frustrated when he didn't go very far lol.

So this weekend is going to be really lovely apparently and we were going to go to York tomorrow but i guess i won't be going anywhere if i feel like this!

Last night was the start of the new series of The Swan. If you haven't seen it it's a bit like extreme makeover except they are competing to be The Swan and win prizes etc... Some of the makeovers from last series were phenomenal and last nights episode was no exeption.

    Life Path number
    Tuesday, April 26, 2005
Another i stole from Stephs blog!

Your Life Path Number Is 6

    6

You have a strong sense of responsibility: you must feel useful to be happy.

The main contribution you make is that of advice, service and ever present support.

This is the Life Path related to leadership by example and assumption of responsibility...

Thus, it is your obligation to pick up the burden and always be ready to help.

The Life Path 6 is one who is compelled to function with strength and compassion.

You are a sympathetic and kind person, generous with personal and material resources.

Wisdom, balance, and understanding are the cornerstones of your Life Path.

Your extraordinary wisdom and the ability to understand the problems of others is apt to commence from an early age...

As a child, you easily spanned the generation gap and assumed an important role in life early on.

While you may assume huge responsibilities in the community, you life revolves around the immediate home and family.

Most with Life Path 6 are the positive types who willingly carry far more than their fair share of the load and are always there when needed.

You are very human and realistic about life, and you feel that the most important thing in your life is the home, family and friends.

The number 6 Life Path actually produces few negative examples, but there are some pitfalls peculiar to the path.

Avoid a tendency to become overwhelmed by responsibilities and a slave to others.

Also, avoid being too critical (of yourself or of others).

The misuse of this Life Path produces tendencies towards exaggeration, over-expansiveness, and self-righteousness.

Imposing one's views in an interfering or meddling way must be an issue of concern.

The natural burdens of your number are heavy, and on rare occasions, responsibility is abdicated by persons with this Life Path 6.

This rejection of responsibility will make you feel very guilty and uneasy, and it will have very damaging effects upon your relationships with others.

I found this on Steph's blog and am a real sucker for anything like it, i had to do it myself! And Steph, it seems somehow i am more normal that you LMAO!

    You Are 55% Normal

    (Somewhat Normal)

While some of your behavior is quite normal...

Other things you do are downright strange

You've got a little of your freak going on

But you mostly keep your weirdness to yourself

Well we didn't do a huge amount this weekend. I did some scrapping on Saturday and Dave went out walking with Corey. Sunday i went to a craft fair which had some good scrapbook stands so spent a little, then we all went to Meadowhall to do a spot of shopping and we had lunch out at Pizza Express. Dave said his Pizza was nice but my Lasagne wasn't anything to write home about.
Yesterday Corey had an appt with the Dietician. She thought he was doing great considering everything but gave us a few pointers. He was weighed and measured and was 21lb 9oz and 78.8cms long. So he has grown 3cms but has hardly put any weight on which didn't concern her at all. She has said we need to get more solids into him and maybe less milk, tell me something i don't know! Well i knew about the solids but didn't realise he was getting too much milk, a child his age should be getting about 600mls and he is on a 1000mls. This isn't a problems as he doesn't eat hardly any solids but she did say we could cut back a little to see if it will encourage him to eat so we'll give it a go. I've decided to keep a food diary for him so i can keep track of what he's getting. Today was the first day of our new regime. Didn't start too well as he only took 20mls of milk but on a positive note he ate something slightly textured, weetabix, which he hasn't done before!

Well Corey did something today he's never quite managed before. He went from sitting to tummy and back to sitting! He goes from sitting to tummy all the time but today he actually managed to get back. A small thing to some people but a real big deal to me. WTG my big boy!! He's standing alone for longer too and i'm hoping it won't be long before he takes that 1st step.

    PT Appt
    Wednesday, April 20, 2005
Well today was the Physios appointment. I was scared, not because of the appointment but because i had to go back to the neonatal unit. Gosh was my stomach churning. Well she was really pleased with him, she doesn't want to see him again until the end of October so i'm happy with that. The Physiotherapist has asked me to participate in a Teaching Day at the hospital in June. There are going to be 12 healthcare professionals there including her as well as Doctors, Nurses, Resp consultants, Speech Therapist and then little old me! She wants me to give a talk about my experiences of being a Preemie mum. I was shocked and am very nervous about it. I don't like standing and talking in front of people but i have plenty of time to prepare.
After the appt we went into the unti to see the staff. Everyone was ohhhing and awwwing at him and thought he was fabulous, which of course he is!
BTW, Corey has his NG tube back in today :( It's for the best really and we'll see how things progress.

Corey wouldn't take alot at his last feed(90mls) and it was a bit of a battle. With that and the combined fact that he isn't feeding from a cup properly i have decided to put his NG tube back in tomorrow :)

    A bit dejected
As some of you already know, my son is fed through a Naso Gastric tube. He never really got the hang of feeding and has a strong oral aversion. He had been taking milk better by syringe feeding but the hope, obviously, is to get him to drink from a cup. Well i haven't said this anywhere before for fear of something going wrong but Corey has been without his NG tube now for 3 days. Yes i have a tube free boy right now. Now i'm not counting my chickens, i know there is a strong likelyhood that i will have to put it in again but for now it is out. It has been hard for me though. He won't take hardly any solids and his cup feeding is diabolical. So he is mainly getting milk and because he won't take large quantities i am having to feed him every 2-3hrs right now. The max he took today is 170mls. I feel like i'm cheating though. It really doesn't take any effort to feed from a syringe, all he has to do is swallow. I guess i'm feeling a bit of a failure right now :( I tried the cup this afternoon but he only tok 20mls so i think i may have to do a search for a cup he likes. I have tried a few already but i guess i could use something that has a really thin pointy spout. If any of you guys know of anything let me know. And please keep your fingers crossed for us :)
Here's a picture of the tube free boy from earlier today.

    Where have i been?
    Monday, April 18, 2005
Well i have been a very neglectful blogger haven't i! Sorry!
We have been away to the Lake District and then i don't seem to have had a minute since we got back on Wednesday. It really was a wonderful holiday. The weather was great, we did loads of great walks, ate loads of good food, the B&B was lovely with everything you could possibly want and DH and Corey were fabulous company! What more could a girl want! Here are a few pics for you -

    Lake Windermere

    Windermere again

    The guesthouse where we stayed

So Weds was back to reality. I've had so much catching up to do. Washing, ironing, housework, scrapbooking, CJ's, swap, it never ends, and i still have loads to do.
Corey was sick again while we were away but i think it was because we didnt have a baby seat to sit him in while we were there, no sickness again since we came home on Weds! :)
So Saturday he decided he wanted to become Mr Mobile. No unfortunetely he isn't crawling but he's been going from sitting to tummy, rolling about everywhere, pushing forwards and backwards and there seems to be no stopping him. yesterday i caught him at the sofa periodically taking his hands off so he was standing on his own! he's getting very cocky! But i love it! DH has done most of the Corey care this weekend to give me a break before he went back to work today. It means i got a CJ done, a Kitchen Journal swap, 3 videos i needed to record stuff on for people and generally catching up. I wasn't looking forward to Dave going to work today, you know what it's like when the OH has time off!

    Life before Birth
    Friday, April 08, 2005
I watched a brilliant program last night called Life before Birth. It showed you a baby growing from conception to birth using the latest computer technology and 4d scanning. There was some lovely poetry used in the programme too, very poignant i though -

'I cannot talk, or think, or feel
    I am in limbo
    But at least I am
I have passed from isn't into is
Until now i wasn't, but now i am
A promise made by the past to the future
    The beginning
I am the beginning of flesh made word'

    No sick? Why No!
Thats right, without wanting to tempt fate or anything Corey hasn't been sick since Monday. Not bad for a kid that hurls an entire feed up at least once a day.
He saw the consultant on Monday and started back on the reflux meds so i'm wondering if they are the reason. They didn't stop him being sick the last time he had them though so it could just be coincidence.
Anyway on an even better note Corey is taking his milk much better. Because he hasn't been brill at keeping milk in his milk before he swallows i thought i would try syringe feeding him again so he got used to keeping the milk in his mouth and swallowing it all. So it's been going fantastically! He is swallowing it all and in greater and greater amounts, 120mls in fact which for Corey is fabulous. When we come back of our little break i'll try with the cup again.

So last night we changed his routine. Instead of bath, bottle, bed, we did bottle, bath, bed and he slept right through without disturbing us. Still got up at 630am but i'm working on it!

We're going to Lake Windermere tomorrow until Tues and am really looking forward to it although i was looking forward to some nice weather but it's been snowing! Snowing in April!!! Just my luck!

Well today the nurse came out to check on Corey, this is the resp nurse, we don't see anyone else.
He was happily satting at 99% so she was satisfied she didn't need to come anymore! Woohoo! So we finally got the all clear and can sent all the O2 back now. What a relief!

Had a fairly bad night with Corey on Monday. He went to bed at 7pm as usual but woke after about an hour and it took us a couple of hours to settle him. His nose is still very runny and he made himself sick again! I just hope things improve. We've been so used to him being a good sleeper that the thought never entered our head that things night change. We are going to try to change his bedtime routine a little to see if it will help. He currently has a bath then a feed abd thern goes to bed, from tonight though we are going to do the feed then bath him just before bedtime and straight to bed. Bath's normally are very soothing for him so we'll see if things improve. He hasn't however got us up in the night but has been waking early, it was 630am this morning. He used to sleep til 8-830 so that is way to early for me!

So yesterday was housework day. Cleaned the house and did a huge pile of ironing before it got to 1030am. Then we went shopping and got some groceries for dinner.

We went to the flicks last night to see Hitch. I would definately recommend it. Just the right amount of comedy, sillyness and romance i like in a movie. It's one of those films that makes you come out feeling all loved up! I just adore Will Smith too, isn't he just gorgeous!

So this morning when i got Corey up i have never seen as much poop in my entire life!!!! Seriously, he has normally filled his nappy in the morning but he must have done about 4 times as much and it was upto his neck and down to his toes!!!(sorry TMI). So i had to put him in the bath, there was no way i could get that lot off with just the wipes. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!

    The Empress Card
You are the Empress card. The Empress is the
archetype of the Mother. She creates and
nurtures life. She represents the abundance of
Mother Earth. The Empress is capable of using
nature in a productive way. She espouses art
for art's sake. Her planet is Venus, and she
embodies love of beauty and a strong value
system. Here is also found initial sensation.
This is the first really physical experience of
the world that The Fool has entered. The
Empress has a rich understanding of the world
based on her five senses. In a reading, The
    Empress represents pregnancy, actual or
metaphorical. She indicates an act of creation
and a sensual experience of beauty. The Empress
is a nurturing force that wishes to see the
product of her experiences reach the next stage

So today was the final visit at the RSV clinic. No jabs today, just a follow up clinic. I met pamela outside, the researcher from Sheffield University who is doing research into continuaty of care after special needs children have left hospital. This was our 2nd meeting. Ironically she is interested in waiting times and although we normally wait no longer than say 10 mins today we waited about 45 mins as Coreys consultant was delayed in surgery! I had to sign more consent forms which is a real pain as they had been changed and then Dr P saw him. He was pleased with how he is doing and although he is majorly grumpy with a constant runny nose he wasn't worried. After i explained about the decline in eating and some vomitting at night time he agreed that we should give the Omeprazole a try again, it won't do him any harm certainly, so we are back on the meds. I was really suprised as we left to receive a lovely gift from the Reseacrh nurse for Corey. It was a little house with different shaped animals that slotted in the roof, it really was a lovely touch and i must remember to send them a Thankyou card. I only thought after leaving the clinic that this will be the last time i see Sue and Moira, the research nurses, so it was a sad moment too really.
So afterwards we went to the University where i had a meeting with Pamela and we talked about my experiences. Corey fell asleep which gave us some good time to chat and amazingly he slept for well over an hour which i unheard of. Anyway we had a good meeting and then off home we went. It's been quite a good day, one where you feel you have achieved alot, but now i'm exhausted!

Well yesterday was a great day. We went to Castleton for a walk and i walked to the top of a mountain! Well ok then a big hill ;) But it was bloody big! here if you don't believe me -

We walked up that path you can see between the trees

Then along the top of the hill

And this was the view of it when we reached the bottom

The hill is called Mam Tor or 'Mother Hill' and i am very proud of myself for reaching the summit!

So we got home and i cooked dinner. If we had brought some milk we would have had lunch out but we hadn't brought any of his parafinalia with us. Anyway i do enjoy my sunday roast so it was nice although i did feel the need for a very long sleep afterwards even though i didn't get it!
We watched 'Along came Polly' last night. I thought it was OK but was mildly disappointed with it cause i am a Ben Stiller fan. I just didn't think it was funny enough. I can totally relate to the IBS situation though although i can honestly say i have never used someones towel to wipe my behind lol!

Well i have just witnessed the re-enactment of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Corey has been waking during the night for a while now and we thought it was due to teething but over the last couple of nights he has vomited too. There was no carpet that remained dry this evening, it was awful, none actually went on Corey remarkably. So i am now worried. He doesn't have a temp, his breathing is fine, the only symptoms are grumpiness, runny nose and the occasional bout of vomiting. We see Coreys consultant on Monday so i'm going to discuss it with him. I'm wondering if reflux is the problem as we stopped his meds a while ago. SInce then his feeding has gotten even worse but that could be because of the teething. Interestingly enough i gave him some omeprazole yesterday to see if it made a difference. Dave fed him at lunchtime and said he almost ate the spoon as well as the food!!!!! Wow!

So i went to Meadowhall today and bought myself some new clothes! I desperately needed them! ALso NEXT(ny favourite childrens clothes shop) just happened to have a one day half price sale on, so i bought Corey a few things. Had lunch out and then when i came back me and hubby did a bit of gardening because the weather has been so nice today. We really need to sort the garden out this yr. We've really let it slip over the past 2 yrs since Corey was born, i guess we've had other things to think about. We are looking to get the bottom half decked and although we have been looking around for someone to do it we have decided to do it ourselves. I have bought a couple of books and we'll have a go when we get back from our trip.
