    Top 10 truths about MMR

MMR immunisation is the safest way that parents can protect their children against measles, mumps and rubella - diseases that can be serious for babies, young children and their families.

Over 500 million doses of MMR have been used in over 90 countries around the world since the early 1970s. The World Health Organization states that MMR is a highly effective vaccine with an outstanding safety record (WHO, 2001).

No country in the world recommends giving MMR vaccine as three separate injections.

Children who are not immunised with MMR increase the chance that others will get the diseases. Before MMR, pregnant women would catch rubella from their own children.

The evidence is that MMR vaccine does not cause autism or inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). There are now numerous studies that do not support a link between autism and IBD and the MMR vaccine (CSM, 1999; Gillberg and Heijbel, 1998; Taylor et al, 1999; Davis et al, 2001; DeWilde et al, 2001).

The Wakefield et al study published in the Lancet in 1998 actually said 'We did not prove an association between MMR vaccine and the syndrome described' and none of the studies since have found a link.

Berelowitz, one of the contributors to the Wakefield study, has subsequently said 'I am certainly not aware of any convincing evidence for the hypothesis of a link between MMR and autism...' (Berelowitz, 2001).

Single vaccines in place of MMR put children and their families at increased and unnecessary risk. The combined vaccine is safer as it reduces the risk of children catching the diseases while they are waiting for full immunisation cover.
The normal procedure for licensing was used for MMR and the vaccine was thoroughly tested before being introduced into the UK in 1988.

Two doses of MMR vaccine are needed to give children the best protection before they go to school. Ninety per cent of those who did not respond to the first dose are protected by the second. Those with low antibodies after the first dose will be boosted.

There are very few children who have a true contraindication to having the MMR vaccine.

    Top 10 Myths about MMR

Getting protection by catching the diseases is better than having the vaccine.

Giving three viruses at the same time is too much for young children's immune system.

Other countries around the world give MMR as three separate vaccines.

Measles, mumps and rubella are rare in the UK so you don't need to immunise kids against them.

MMR causes autism and bowel disease.

There was a scientific paper that showed a real link between MMR and autism and bowel disease.

Giving the MMR vaccines separately reduces the risk of side effects.

The vaccine was not properly tested before it was licensed.

My child has already received one dose so there is no need for a second one.

My son doesn't need protecting against rubella; my daughter doesn't need protecting against mumps.

Well yesterday Corey had his MMR jab :( I have never been in any doubt as to giving him this vaccination but it is amazing how many parents do not want to give this now due to all the controvery over it in the past few yrs. Anyway today he is a grumpy bum! He had us up a few times in the night with cold like symptoms, snuffly nose and a cough. Hopefully it's just a reaction to the vaccine and he isn't getting another cold.
He's been standing at the settee today with his back to it with no hands just using his bum for balance. So i decided to get the camcorder and did manage to get a few seconds of recording before he fell flat on his face! ouch! He was ok though. He has also started making different sounds with his babbling. He's been saying bambambam, damdamdam, momomomom and to my amusement while we were in B&Q yesterday bumbumbumbum!
Today i tried him with a little banana. He wasn't that interested really but he did eat 3 little pieces so i will perservere with that.

Well we went walking again today. Corey really loves being outdoors, we never hear a peep out of him when we're walking. We went to a lovely place called Cresswell crags. Then we walked up near a place called Welbeck abbey. It has a real air of mystery about it and is one of those places i would really love to explore more but apparently it is now used by the army and so is off bounds to the public. It has hidden underground rooms and tunnels, how fabulous would it be to explore these things! Things like that really interest me!

Thought i would show you a picture of Corey with the drum i bought him the other day, he really loves it!

    Friday, March 25, 2005
Tonight i finished making my CJ's. A supernatural one and one for my Team on the Scrapping forum. I am doing 'These are a few of my favourite thing'. I finished putting in the pages to my Supernatural CJ and did the intro and sign in pages for my Favourite things CJ. Gonna try and do the LO tomorrow for that and the i can start the inside of the other one. Managed to post of my ribbons for a swap too so soon i should be receiving 20yds of different gingham/stripy/spotty ribbons back!
I really love Fridays because it gives me a chance to do all the stuff i need to catch up on. Dave spends time with Simon(he went to the pics to see the new Keanu Reeves movie), Corey is in bed and i can just scrap, surf and watch TV. Great stuff!

    Am i weird?
    Thursday, March 24, 2005
Well today we went to visit my Dad. Not anything out of the ordinary i hear you say but in fact it was. You see we have never been to my Dad's! I say we, i mean Corey and I. I have been obvioudly, i was born there but i have never taken Corey! That is how careful we have been about germs and everything. Dad always comes to visit us. He has a lot of visitors and a dog and we were worried that he might pick something up. It isn't just Dads though, we haven't taken him anyway, that is how strict we have been. You may think i'm a bbit weird for taking it to this extreme but it's worked! Apart from a couple of tiny colds he hasn't had any illnesses at all since coming home a yr ago! Wow, did i say a yr ago. Why yes it was April 20th, now there's a day to celebrate! So anyway, apart from being at Dads it would have been a major prob to get him there. He lives towo bus rides away and as Dave works in the day and i don't drive then i would have had to have took him on a bus full of germ ridden(sorry) people to get there, something i wasn't prepared to risk.
So anyway now Corey is a bit older and the winter is about through we have become more laid back. Hubby is still being reluctant but i have bitten the bullet and taken him on the bus and to the Supermarket etc.... Hopefully we won't get cabin fever anymore and will get out more and more!

I am exhausted! I didn't go to bed while late and then got up early with Corey. Seen as we have the new buggy i thought i best take it out for a test drive so we walked to Meadowhall, a good few miles away. I bought Corey a drum from the toy shop(yes i am mad) and then went for a Mcdonalds, oh after i popped in the craft shop ;) Then we walked a bit further and got some things in for tea and i couldn't resist popping into Mothercare to get him a few new bits, i bought an outfit, 2 pairs of pyjamas and a pair of sunglasses which he wont keep on,lol! Oh and got him a new Mr Men book, he loves them, we have Mr Strong now.

What was at No 1 the day you were born??? Tie a yellow ribbon round the old oak tree was at number one when i was born. Found out for yourself here and let me know!

    Sucker!
I am such a sucker for these Quizilla things! and for scrapbooking too! I got this from Gina's blog.

    Fibers
    You are Fibers!

Fun and crazy at times. You are a warm fuzzy kind
of person. You run around getting things done
but still find time for fun! You have so many
diverse interests that it is often hard to pin
you down to any one thing. People love your
friendly attitude and carefree ways. You often
brighten other people's days. But Fibers Beware
    - Sometimes people don't take you seriously
because of your happy-go-lucky ways. Sometimes
you find yourself feeling left out from
decision making that could directly affect you.
Even though you like to be happy and cheerful,
make sure others know that you can also be
serious and in tune with reality.

    Feeling good
Well i've had a really good day today. I think it has something to do with going to bed at 930pm last night, i definately needed sleep. Corey didn't disturb us either which is cool! Ande he didnt get up til 7am which is good for him these days. I've had a bit of a Flylady day today. I cleaned the kitchen including all the windows and frames, cleaned out cupboards, did 2 loads of washing, cleaned the windows outside, cooked dinner, fed the baby...... gosh i'm tired just thinking about it!
Corey has been a pain though! I've noticed he has some more teeth coming through at the back on the top and the one next to his front two has broken through, so in hope his grumpiness is just due to that. I worry about his oxygen levels cause he hasn't had them checked in a while, his resp nurse has been away, but i think she is back next week so he'll have em checked then.
We are still undecided where to go for a few days next month, it's either the Lake District or The Cotswolds. I want the Cotswolds, Dave wants the Lakes but i can't find anywhere to stay, everywhere that is really nice is booked, after all it's only 3 wks away.
I have just taken delivery of a super new pram. Much smaller and lighter than the buggy i have so hopefully we can be even more mobile now!

    Getting better
    Sunday, March 20, 2005
Well sleeptimes have been a littl better over the last few nights. Thursday night he went off to sleep and didn't get up until 730am Friday morning although he did wake at 6am but i left him and he went back. Friday night he woke twice before 9pm and was very fidgety in the night and got up at 630am. Last night he never bothered us until 6am when he moaned for about 30 secs but then went back to sleep and got up at 7am. His gums are very red and there are teeth everywhere so i'm sure it must be painful.
Yesterday he manouvered himself around the room by pushing himself backwards which he hasn't really done before so that was great. Also a few other firsts last week -

    1. First time in a supermarket
    2. First time on a bus
    3. First time in bath with Dad

You may think these are a little strange but to me they aren't. Because of Coreys lung problems we have been so very careful and it seems to have paid off. Apart from the cold he has just had(which wasn't that bad)he has had no problems since coming home from the NICU (touching wood, crossing fingers and legs). He has never, and i mean NEVER been anywhere where there are any more than a handful of people. So we are becoming more subdued with winter nearly being over and so i took him to the local ASDA last week. He loved it and was looking around and trying to get things off the shelves lol. He also loved it on the bus, just looked out of the window and enjoyed the ride. I have come to one conclusion though, i need a new pram. The one i have is very heavy and very bulky(one of those you slot your car seat into)and so i decided that if i was going to go out and about more i needed something that i could fold up and carry. So i have bought a Maclaren Techno XT and should take delivery of it next week. Woohoo! Looking forward to getting that.

Well i have decided to delete my scrapbooking blog. No one seems to read it and i can't be bothered to publicise and maintain it, so any scrapbook bits i will blog here!
I am currently doing quite a few scrapbook projects and branching out into new areas. I have just completed a rolodex swap where 60 people each decorated 60 rolodex cards, we send them to the organiser who then packages them into 60 individual lots and we will all get 60 individual cards to go on our rolodexes at home, how cool. I'm also doing 2 Circle Journals, a team one from the scrapping forum and i'm organising one myself(gulp)about the supernatural. I'm also involved in a kitchen journal swap. I am hopefully soon getting involved with a prem baby CJ too.
Ironically i finished a LO today which i think i mentioned earlier named 'Sweet Child Of Mine'. Getting me up at 530am does not constitute this!! Here it is -

    Argggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhh
Why is it just when you think things are improving something happens to throw a spanner in the works?
Well, Corey didn't have a particularly bad day yesterday. He got up at 7am as usual and want too grumpy. We went to the park and he was slightly grumpier in the afternoon but nothing i couldn't live with. He went to bed as usual and went straight to sleep, yay!!!!!! only waking up at about 8pm for 5 mins for a cry and then settled straight bad down. Great!!!
So why o why does he have to get up at 530am!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I am so tired! I didn't go to bed til around 1am and then it took me ages to drop off so now i've had about 3 1/2hrs sleep and i feel crap. I started a layout last night ironically titled 'Sweet Child O' Mine'. Shall i throw it in the trash now?

    Lie in
    Sunday, March 13, 2005
Well my wonderful hubby let me lie in again today. I shouldnt take advantage really cause he has to get up at 530am everyday for work because he commutes to Derby but he said he didn't mind. So i got up about 830am and got ready and we went out for a nice walk. The weather was gorgeous, really sunny but abit windy. We went to a place called Langsett reservoir, it was beautiful, forgot my camera too!
Didn't do much this afternoon, just had dinner and watched a bit of TV.
Same scenario with Corey again tonight although not quite as bad. Took us about an hour to get him off tonight. May have been sooner but he cryed and made himself sick so i had to change his sheets and babygrow. Please let it just be a phase!

    Sleep baby sleep!
I did manage to sleep to sleep for an hour Friday afternoon when DH came home and finished watching Miracle on 34th Street, i just love that film. Dave bathed and fed Corey and put him to bed and i just generally chilled out upstairs in my craft room watching Comic Relief, scrapping and browsing the web.

Yesterday started out fine. Dave let me lie in bed and got up with Corey at the usual 7am. Then he took Corey out walking and left me to chill out, which after the week i've had was great. I did some scrapbooking and browsed the web, did some washing and hung it out cause it was a beautiful day. Finsihed watching some programs i had recorded from Friday night and just generally took it easy, it was lovely. Had tea and then Dave put Corey to bed. That's when Corey started. He's always been very good were sleep is concerned. We can put him to bed and you can guarantee he'll be asleep with 10-15 mins, but not tonight. He was fine for about 15 mins then he started crying. We don't normally pick him up unless he is really upset which he was so i went in for a cuddle. We normally pick him up and cuddle him but are non verbal and the second he has calmed down we lay him back down. Normally this works but not this time. We went on like this until 9pm! Everytime we laid him down he would cry, it was if he was afraid to go in his cot. DH was looking after him so i said let me have a go. I took him out of his room and brought him into my scraproom, he watched TV for about 5 mins and looked at his book, i let him calm down and got him smiling and then we went back to his room. I put on his lullaby and laid him down and he went to sleep. I don't think it was because he wanted me but he just needed to calm down fully. Gosh i hope we don't have the same thing tonight!
I had the most awful dream as well last night. Corey had been shot in the leg but didn't appear to be in pain as he wasn't crying or anything. So we took him to the hospital and they said they were going to operate but i insisted they give him an epidural instead of a GA. Very weird

    Meltdown
    Friday, March 11, 2005
I have been in tears for the last 1/2hr. I have really reached the end of my tether.
Corey has been the child from hell this week. I think he's over his cold and it's his teeth now. He has yelled, cryed and moaned since 730am this morning and i have had enough. As soon as DH walked in i burst into tears and demanded that he take Corey out(which he does on a Friday anyway). I cannot take anymore i am just at a loss what to do. Calgel and calpol have not worked. And because of his oral aversion he won't have a teething ring or eat anything hard. DH has gone to the chemist to get some other stuff that was recommended by a friend. Some herbal crystals that you put in the mouth which dissolve and she said anbesol is good too.
I'm going to bed for an hr now to see if i feel any better when i get up.
    Anyone got any valium??

    How did we get on?
Well he got up at 7am as usual and has been a monster ever since. He is currently watching Tweenies which has given me a chance to clean the bathroom. He only stays quite for 5 mins at a time.
I'm sure i found three 6's on head this morning!!

    Tired
    I am tired, very tired.

Corey is very unsettled at times during the night and it disturbs me cause i'm a very light sleeper. I think it's his teeth that are bothering him to be honest. This morning he woke me at 5am. DH was getting up for work so he changed his nappy and put him back to bed but the minute he stepped out of the door he started crying again. Anywya i've managed to get him off to sleep again so we'll see how we go on.

Had a nice day yesterday. Had visitors in the morning and then in the afternoon we went into town. Corey hasn't been there much because we keep him pretty much isolated due to gis lung problems and not wanting him to pick bugs up. I even did what would have been unthinkable six months ago, i took him on a bus! I don't drive you see(i know i'm living in the dark ages)but even if i did i wouldn't take a car into town. So we were gonna get on the train but after waiting 1/2 hr for it decided to get out of the cold and get on the bus(which came immediately btw). Corey really enjoyed it, he was looking out of the window observing everything. When we got to down DH came to join us as he had finished work early. We had a look round the shops and bought a new ironing board as mine collapsed yesterday.

Corey is still VERY snotty, but to be honest i'm not sure it's the cold anymore or just teething. His cough was better yesterday too which is interesting. He stopped his reflux meds in the week and his cough has been quite bad, bad enough for me to book him in at the doctors today. Anyway i decided Weds night to give him he reflux meds and he hardly coughed at all yesterday. Coincidence? Who knows. I didn't give them him last night so we'll see how he is today.

Had a lovely prize arrive yesterday, a pack of MM ribbons and some MM washer words. I entered a competition on the Scrapcanvas website and won. That's 2 prizes in as many weeks, and i never win anything!
So a friend of mine sent me some mountboard yesterday cause i wanted to have a go at making an album myself. I also bought some book rings while i was out. Here's the finished result -

It's a bit floppy but i think it's meant to be. I'm going to decorate the front and then fill in some pages. Next thing to try is paper bag albums.

Am looking forward to Comic Relief tonight. For anyone who doesn't know what it is look here - Comic Relief. It's a wonderful cause and certainly provides many laughs!

It's oh so quite, shhhhhhh shhhhhhhhhh
Well it has been very quite around here recently apart from the whinging of Corey that seems to go on constantly in the background. Not only has he got a cold but he has 5 teeth that seem to have come through at once. Two next to the top two and three on the bottom, so don't think that's helping matter's much. This weekend i just chilled. Managed to do a bit of scrapping and did an Accordian album of Corey yesterday which DH has already pinched to go on his desk at work. He went out walking again on Sunday with Corey but i am still in agony with my toe after falling down the stairs so haven't been able to go :(
We have decided that if Dave gets the bonus he thinks he will next month(fingers crossed) we will go away for a few days when he is off in April, we can't really afford it otherwise. We were thinking of the Lake District but then Dave suggested Snowdonia as i have never been there. So i've been looking at websites and gathering info. I promptly found a really nice hotel(well it was a Hall actually), right near Mt Snowdon, fabulous views, beautifully furnished, good price, and was all set to email them to see if they had availability when in small print at the bottom it said 'We do not accept children under 2yrs' WTF! I was so angry i have emailed them to let them know my feelings! Whys should families be discriminated against! Have get to receive a reply!

Corey is getting brilliant at standing right now. He can stand if i just hold the one hand where as before he would spin round and then land on his bum. He can stay upright for a couple of seconds if you let go but he is getting there, i'm very proud of him.

    Catching up
Well i got loads done last night and this morning. I love days like that when you manage to sit down and just get on with things. Here's what i've been doing -

    1. Finished off my Rolodex cards for a swap
    2. Packaged up a RAK for a friend
    3. Started and finished a double layout for a friend who is doing a Wedding Journal
    4. Updated my blog
    5. Updated Corey's website
    6. Tidyed the house
    7. Sorted out finances

Glad i did the last one because the car insurance company have taken the whole yrs fee out and we pay direct debit. They aren't open til Monday now either. Bloody idiots!

So Dave left me to my own devices today so i could get things done. H went to a hiking store to see if he could get Corey an all in one waterproof suit, he is taking this walking very seriously, lol. Anyway he did manage to get him one, and also bought him some like slipper things that go over the top, i think he may grow into them when he is about 4!
I've had a terrible headache all day again, i think it tends to be when i have slept too well. Dave got up with Corey this morning who decided to get up earlier than normal, 6:45. I never think i'll be able to get back to sleep but the next time i opened my eyes was 08:40.
I was hoping i might con Dave into another lie in in the morning and breakfast in bed with it being Mother's day but it's my turn to get up with Corey so no such luck!

Corey is feeling much better today, or so it would seem. He went to bed at 7pm last night and woke at 8pm crying, think he'd had one of his dreams. So it took me a good 10 mins to settle him down but then he slept til 8am this morning. I think the sleep has done him the world of good. he is still a tad crabby and has a very snotty nose but we have no temp or anything, he did throw up all his feed this morning though but that normal.
I myself feel ill today, sods law really. My IBS is playing up and i still have cold, coupled with that i have major period pains so have dosed up on painkillers which have get to work.
Later on i'm goin to do some scrapping. DH always has his son on Fridays so i use that time to do what i need too and leave them to 'bond'. They normally watch DVD's and tonight they are watching 'Necessary Roughness' which is about American Football and 'Starsky & Hutch', which we have all seen before but think it's funny.
i have some rolodex cards that i have been decorating for a swap to finish, some wedding layouts for a friend to complete and am starting on a Circle Journal with some friends in my Team. I'm also doing a CJ with the Prem baby forum i belong too but we haven't set any firm dates for it yet.

Life is a gift we're given each and every day.
Dream about tomorrow, but live for today.
To live a little, you've got to love a whole lot.
Love turns the ordinary into the extraordinary.

    Life's a journey
    always worth taking.
Take time to smell the roses... and tulips...
and daffodils... and lilacs... and sunflowers...

Count blessings like children count stars.
The secret of a happy life isn't buried in a
treasure chest... it lies within your heart.
It's the little moments that make life big.

    Don't wait. Make memories today.
    Celebrate your life!

    What a day
Well as you all know Corey has a cold. No big deal for a normal child but for Corey it could be bad. He has Chronic Lung Disease due to being premature and ventilated for so long and has only recently come off Oxygen(forgive me if you already know this). The cold isn't the problem but as you know these can migrate to the chest and that is the worry.
Anyway, he had been grumpy all day but appeared to just have a runny nose. he was put to bed at 7pm as usual and went off to sleep fine. We watched some TV and then at 930pm i went to feed him. He was asleep but i noticed he was very warm and his breathing was very fast(about 60BPM). On taking his temp it was 101 degrees so i gave him some Calpol. By this time with me faffing about with the thermometer he was awake. Shorty after giving him the calpol i started his feed but immediately he was sick. I had only given him a few mls. So i got him out of bed, changed his sheets and babygrow and then he proceeded to vomit again. So after another change of clothes and a very fractious Mummy i decided to call the doctor. I spoke to the nurse on the phone who said i should taken him to see the doctor at the hospital. We are only 15 mins away so it didn't take long. By the time we got there Corey was acting very angelic and you wouldn't think anything was wrong with him. So he was examined, his temp was now down to 99 so he must have kept some of the Calpol down, his breathing was normal and his chest sounded clear, thank god! The doctor looked in his ears and said the right one was a little red and then said he wanted to check his throat. I did say he was orally defensive and to be careful but he still rammed the spatula down Coreys throat at lightening speed causing him to gag. Luckily for the doctor he had already spewed his dinner up. His throat was a little red. So basically it is viral and confined to his head, i.e he has a head cold. We got back about 1115pm and i put Corey to bed after giving him some fluids and more Calpol. He went to sleep within 1/2hr. This didn't last though at at 230am he was awake and cranky. No temperature but just wouldnt sleep. At 430am i took him downstairs and gave him some milk in the hope that he might sleep for a couple more hours and that i could too get some shut eye. Dave was also up at this time as he was going to work but he was blissfully unaware that Corey had kept me up all night as i had slept in the spare room so i didn't disturb him getting up to Corey. So back to bed at 530am and he did sleep until 730am. he woke fairly merry but it didn't last and he has been crabby ever since. He has had about another 45mins sleep this morning but he looks shattered now and dave has come home from work early so i can get some rest. He has taken Corey out for some fresh air in the hope it will make him sleep.

please let him sleep tonight, i don't think i can face another sleepless one!

Do you ever just want to run away and hide?

I have had a day from hell. I am looking after a sick and very grumpy child. Not only that but i am trying to survive on about 4 hrs sleep and must have been laid awkwardly because i have the most excrutiating pain in my right shoulder, i've really had problems picking Corey up today. He wouldn't settle at anything, i picked him up - he cryed, i put him down - he cryed, play with toys - cry, watch TV-laugh! yes i left him for 2 mins while i went to the loo and could hear him laughing downstairs. I have honestly never heart him laughing at the tv before. He mush prefers people programs than cartoons and it was a man singing about a digger. He was singing 'Digger-digger-digger-digger-dig-dig-dig' and everytime he said that Corey burst into laughter, it was very funny.
He has slept twice today which is also unusual for him because he normally just sleeps at lunchtime. I am continually wiping his nose so will have to put some vaseline on when he goes to bed cause i don't want it to get sore.

I feel crap. I am physically and mentally exhausted and am in pain. I just want to go to bed now!

    ILL
Ok, so i think Corey has his first proper cold. He's had a small one before but it only lasted a few days and i was so nervous then but i think this is going to be much worse :(
Hubby has had a cold for a few days, a real bad one but hasn't really gone near Corey, but i guess when you live in the same house it's hard not to get the germs.
Well he'd been fine but yesterday afternoon i thought he sounded a bit nasal. His nose wasn't running or anything but you could hear him, he sounded snuffly.
So he went to bed as normal but i was woken up about 1am by a very snotty and blocked up nosed child. He was having difficulty breathing through his nose and think he found it unusual because he's never had to breathe through his mouth before. So i put some Karvol on his bed sheets but it didn't have much effect. After lots of sneezing and copious amounts of snot(sorry)he went back to sleep about 230am. I slept in the room next to him so we could switch off the baby monitor and DH could get some sleep as he is suffering too and had work this morning.
So we were up at 7am, an hr earlier than usual and i have a very snotty kid.
Hope it doesn't turn into anything nasty, positive vibes please!
